In the fall of 2004, Lori Green scheduled a meeting at Mardel to see if there was any interest in a Christian Homeschool Troop. We had quite a few people show up. Theda and Britain Green came with their forms in hand and ready to go. The District office knew we were trying to organize a Troop and they wanted us to submit our charter before the end of 2004 so they allowed us to charter with less than 3 boys. I filled out the charter and the paperwork for Austin and me (Lori) and we were “official”.
Our Troop was chartered in December 2004 with 2 Scouts and 2 adults: Austin Green, Britain Green, Theda Green, and Lori Green. Theda and I have the same last names, but we aren’t family. Ms. Hunt and I were convinced that we needed a Christian Homeschool Troop so we begged Mr. Jim Vorgert to come and be our Scout Master. He said we had to have a trailer, a place to meet, and at least one older Scout. God provided all three. Some man from Plano called and said, “I hear you are in need of a trailer. I have one and will bring it to you.” I have no idea how he got my name or number and neither did the District office. The older Scout that had offered to help was not able to continue but, we had several churches agree to let us use their facility. Mr. Jim was convinced that God wanted us to start a new Troop. He started in December as our Scout Master. In February of 2005, the first group of Webelos crossed over. We added 4 more Scouts to the Troop. Soon after the crossover, Chris Vorgert decided to switch from the Troop he was a part of and join 226. In less than 5 years, we have outgrown 2 trailers and our current facility. We have also gone from 2 boys to 50+ boys. God has continued to bless our Troop with wonderful boys and adult leaders.
